The farm “La Centuria” takes its name from the portion of territory in which the public land was divided in Roman times, both in case of reclamation and foundiation of new colonies and allocation of land to the veterans of the many civil wars.
Since Roman times, the territory of Aquileia had to undergo human intervention to limit the flooding of sea, rain and resurgence water by building embankments and canals, in defence of civil works and reclamation of marshy areas. Only in the last century, however, thanks to the intervention of the “Consorzio di bonifica” with its system of locks and water pumps, it was possible to completely restore the territory, also eradicating malaria, the spread of which was favored by the proliferation of mosquito anopheles in the humid environment.
Our farm produces soft wheat, sugar beets, corn for food use, soybeans and sunflowers in rotation.
